we grow up watching these disney chick flicks where the leading lady always get stuck in some dilemma and her prince charming comes and saves the day, then it ends with "happily ever after".
then when real world, real life shit happens.. like your parents divorce, your first love cheats on you or you fall out of love with no explanation... the vivid picture you painted of falling in love and making it work goes up in flames.
a lot of young people are jaded and tainted. bell hooks said something along the lines of cynicism being the mask of a broken heart. people always talk shit like, "i'm never gonna fall in love." or they do stupid shit like "put walls up just to see who has what it takes to break 'em down."(like, why do grand gestures have to be the manifestations of someones love for you?) they just allow themselves to succumb to the mentality of hopeless lovelessness (not sure if thats a word, or if thats the proper spelling, but fuck it.)
what i don't understand is why people want to be all dark, gloomy and unhappy. i mean, if thats the way you really WANT to be, to each her own. but to people who sit there all clueless as to why life is the way it is and complain.. "it's time to nut up or shut up." take control of your life and make some changes. there's no prince charming coming to save you from your life.
love and trust yourself. because we all get hurt and burned. and if we all stayed immobilized from the pain and didn't learn, grow and move on... we would go against the one surefire thing that life and lauryn guarantees, and thats "change comes eventually."
